A family shattered by the death of a beloved son is wickedly manipulated by the mysterious young woman who turns up, claiming to be the son’s girlfriend, in this suspenseful psychological puzzle that probes dark secrets of the heart.

Young, vivacious Kaye (Kate Vernon) quickly wins the trust of the Reaves family after the loss of their son Martin in a military accident. The mother, Evelyn Reaves (Margot Kidder), is comforted to meet her son’s friend from the service. Martin’s brother Tom (Patrick Dempsey) also welcomes Kaye, for she returns a note of joy to the grieving family. Tom’s jealous girlfriend Julie (Krista Bridges) is suspicious of Kaye’s intentions, but Tom scoffs at her fears.

Tom’s best friend, arrogant ladies’ man Mike Miller (Craig Sheffer), sees a kindred spirit in Kaye. They sleep together once on the beach–a liaison that will cost him his life.

Distrustful Julie investigates Kaye’s military background and discovers that she has lied about her identity. Meanwhile, Kaye advances her own deadly agenda. First she secretly seduces Tom, then nearly drowns his younger sister Gail (Ashley Ann Wood) in a boating “accident.”

When anguished Evelyn berates herself as a bad mother, Kaye unleashes her long-festering fury and reveals the secret that binds her to the Reaves. She too, is Evelyn’s daughter — born out of wedlock. Given up for adoption, she has suffered a miserable life of physical and sexual abuse.It is clear, as the bloodknot unravels, that Kaye has come to wreak deadly vengeance on the family she never had.
